Sarah Bloomer
User experience today involves more than usability and user centered design. We need to gain a deeper understanding of our users. This workshop explores user research techniques you might not have tried before from the growing field of design research, established to capture user needs, both explicit and hidden.
We'll discuss and try out techniques relevant to software design, techniques being used in companies worldwide, across many fields, from software design to organizational design. We'll talk about and try out techniques which are about both observation and co-design, and discuss the outcome of those techniques. There will be plenty of time for discussion.
Some of the techniques we'll cover:
- Field studies
- Collages and bulls-eye diagrams
- Storytelling
- Cultural probes
- Micro-blogging and online journaling
And please! I'd like some volunteers. Sign up to create a collage or participate in a cultural probe. Then in the workshop, we'll apply the results and discuss the experience. Sign up at http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07e3ddxbscgjvxj0ah/start by February 25th. Volunteers will be entered in a drawing for a Flip camera.
